Music
Music plays an active part in learning for every student at Activate as it is such a widely-loved and accessible subject. Music sessions offer learners a chance to play percussion instruments, learn about rhythms and musical terms, and compose and perform within a group. There are also bigger instruments such as guitars, drums and keyboards for learners to try out.
We have adapted equipment and technology to make participation as accessible as possible for every student. In 2021, the college acquired a SoundBeam system; a ‘touch free’ musical device that uses sensors to translate small movements, such as an eye blink or finger tap, into music.
Learners are encouraged to share their music choices and become confident in expressing their opinions and tastes. We also have an after school club where we work together as a band and prepare for end of year performances.
