Employers

Employability Programme
As part of Activate’s educational offer our students take part in employability sessions and undertake work experience onsite and within the local community. Work experience can impact significantly on the self-development of students and improves their chance of getting a paid job in a very competitive job market. Activate collaborates with local businesses and organisations to develop a comprehensive employability curriculum that is responsive to the needs of local employers.

Work Experience
We want students to undertake meaningful work placements which are linked to their destination goals and their career plans. We recognise that students should be able to cope with the pressures of real working environments. In order to prepare them for external placements students are offered internal opportunities in areas such as our Community Cafe. Internal placements take place in real working environments so we can help develop our students’ skills and assess whether they are ready for external placements.

Taking a Student on Placement
If you would like to take a student on placement our Employability Co-ordinator will make an initial visit to discuss our employability programme and the steps we take to ensure the process runs smoothly.

For further information please contact Pat Johnson on 0151 545 1279 or email Pat.

Support for Employers
Our Employability Co-ordinator works closely with employers to ensure that our students transition smoothly into their placement and meet the standard expected. We establish an open dialogue with employers to ensure any issues are resolved quickly. Activate also provides free training opportunities for teams of staff who are working with students with learning difficulties or disabilities.

Partnership Working
We are a member of the Association of National Specialist Colleges who frequently meet to discuss national good practice standards which we feedback to employers. We work closely with local Job Centres and the National Careers Service to ensure that new legislation is integrated into our employability programme.
